Video: Thousands of UNIBEN students protest over ASUU strike

Students of the University of Benin in their numbers, on Wednesday, staged a protest over the ongoing strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

The protesting youths stormed UNIBEN gate in Edo state to demand an end to the persistent strike which has kept all of them at home for almost four months.

ASUU strike which commenced in February has left public universities shut following the Federal Government’s alleged failure to meet lecturers’ demands.

The union had accused the government of poor commitment to the payment of academic earned allowance; the continued use of the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System, among others.

A video which is circulating online shows thousands of students demonstrating outside the university’s main gate.
