A United Kingdom Crown Court has sentenced a Nigerian national, Gift Oladele, aged 24, to 17 years’ imprisonment following his conviction for rape and sexual assault. The judgment was delivered on Thursday at Mold Crown Court, Wrexham, after a jury found him guilty in March 2026.
According to the prosecution led by James Coutts, Oladele befriended the 19-year-old victim outside a takeaway in Wrexham city centre in September 2025, appearing “friendly and flirtatious” before offering to walk her home. He subsequently dragged her into nearby woods, restrained her, and committed the assault. The victim testified that she was terrified and complied only to survive the ordeal.
The court further heard that Oladele threatened to harm the victim if she reported the incident and attempted to conceal evidence, including a mobile phone later discovered to contain incriminating searches related to sexual attacks. Investigators described him as having a disturbing fascination with forced sexual abuse.
At the time of the offence, Oladele was already on bail for a separate rape allegation in Manchester (November 2024) and had previously served a custodial sentence in 2022 for a sexually motivated attack. The UK Home Office had earlier ordered his deportation, but he appealed, claiming deportation to Nigeria would breach his rights.
Delivering judgment, Judge Simon Mills described the offence as “truly depraved” and categorised Oladele as a dangerous offender posing a high risk to young women. He commended the victim’s courage in reporting the crime despite threats, noting her continuing trauma and fear.
The case underscores the UK judiciary’s firm stance on sexual offences, particularly where offenders demonstrate repeat patterns of predatory behaviour.
