The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed that two people were killed and seven suspects arrested in connection with criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, and culpable homicide in Dass Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafi’u Habib, disclosed this to newsmen in Bauchi on Saturday.
Habib said preliminary investigations revealed that on September 4, 2026, at about 6:00 PM, one Ibrahim El-Safwan, aka “Jabala’i”, of Bayan Fada area, Dass, allegedly conspired with accomplices and attacked Abdulrahman Nuru, 29, a tricycle rider from Bundot area.
“He was intercepted and brutally attacked with cutlasses on various parts of his body at Tudun Wus area, Dass,” Habib stated.
Upon receiving the report, operatives from the Dass Division swiftly mobilized to the scene. Personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, whose headquarters is close to the scene, had already taken custody of the tricycle and one suspect.
The victim was rushed to the General Hospital, Dass, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
The Police spokesman said the incident sparked tension, as youths from Bundot area mobilized in large numbers, armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, and stormed Bayan Fada area for reprisal.
This led to a violent confrontation between the two groups at an open space near Dass Central Motor Park, during which another victim, Mukhtar Jibrin, 38, of Bayan Fada area, was stabbed.
“Mukhtar was rushed to General Hospital, Dass, and later referred to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he was also confirmed dead,” Habib said.
In a prompt response, detectives restored normalcy and arrested the following suspects in connection with the incident: Umar Abubakar, 20, of Bayan Fada area (principal suspect); Blus Garba, 19; Adamu Muhammad, 17; Hussaini Danjuma, 17; Hassan Danjuma, 17; Shuaibu Sani, 17; and Aliyu Abdullahi, 18; all of Bundot area
Habib said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices currently at large.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the killings and has ordered a discreet and thorough investigation into the matter.
He appealed to residents of Dass to remain calm and law-abiding, and to desist from taking the law into their own hands, assuring that justice will be served.
