Two dead, 20 injured in Kano road accident

Two passengers have died while 20 others sustained injuries in a road accident at Wudil T-junction along Maiduguri Road in Kano State.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the crash occurred on Saturday and involved a DAF trailer carrying goods and passengers from Wudil Market to Lagos State.

Abdullahi Labaran, spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kano, said preliminary findings indicate that the driver lost control due to overspeeding.

Labaran stated that victims of the accident were taken to Wudil General Hospital for treatment.

“We received a distress call at about 9:25am and arrived at the scene within 10 minutes,” he said.

“The accident involved a DAF trailer loaded with goods and passengers, travelling from Wudil Market en route to Lagos state.

“The passengers were 30 male adults; two persons died, 20 others sustained varying degrees of injuries, while eight were unhurt.”

Labaran also quoted Idris Muhammed-Lawan, the FRSC Kano Sector Commander, as expressing concern over continued violations of road safety regulations, particularly the use of trailers to transport passengers.

Muhammed-Lawan warned that overspeeding and overloading remain leading causes of road accidents and urged drivers to strictly adhere to traffic rules.

He also advised members of the public to avoid boarding trailers and other unsafe vehicles.

In February 2026, at least 30 people were reported dead in a separate accident involving a trailer at Kwanar Barde in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
