1. FCCPC Threatens To Sanction Marketers As Petrol Sells For ₦1,200 In Nigeria
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has expressed concerns about the current price of petrol in filling stations across Nigeria.
KeepLoss reports that the FCCPC, in a statement on Sunday, observed that marketers were quick to increase prices following the earlier spike in global crude oil prices.
It recalled that petrol climbed from between ₦800 to ₦900 to between ₦1,350 and ₦1,500 per litre, while diesel sold for as high as ₦2,000 as hostilities intensified in the Gulf between April and May.
It, however, noted that despite improved global affairs, petrol is still being sold at an average of ₦1,200 nationwide, with some local refiners fixing gantry prices between ₦1,025 and ₦1,075 despite the de-escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The FCCPC warned that it won’t allow marketers to sell at unfair prices, as a review of the gantry prices of local refiners, marketers, depot operators, and retail outlet operators revealed token reductions that are not commensurate with the steep fall in global crude oil prices.
The FCCPC Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Tunji Bello, in a statement signed by the Commission’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, wondered why it is taking forever for consumers to benefit from the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the attendant fall in global prices of crude oil.
The Nigeria Democratic Coalition (NDC) has disclosed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied its request for the access code needed to upload its candidates’ names to the commission’s nomination portal.
According to the Nigerian Tribune, the party’s national spokesman, Osa Director, said the party had approached INEC to obtain the access code needed to complete the online submission of its candidates, but was unable to secure it.
He said that officials of the electoral commission informed the party that they would “get back” to them, leaving the NDC unable to complete the mandatory upload before the court’s deregistration order.
According to him, the party’s inability to upload its candidates should not be interpreted as a failure on its part, insisting that the delay resulted from the commission’s refusal to provide the necessary access credentials.
He further revealed that the party would return to INEC to make another request while simultaneously taking legal steps to suspend the enforcement of the court judgment.
3. Oshiomhole Endorses Firing Squad Proposal For Criminals, Bandits
The lawmaker representing Edo North in the Senate, Adams Oshiomhole, has applauded the death penalty for kidnappers and bandits proposed by the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo.
KeepLoss reports that Oshiomhole shared his approval while speaking at the flag-off of the Edo North Senatorial District local government election campaign held at the Public Field in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.
He asserted that civil liberties had been restored in Edo State under Governor Okpebholo’s administration, adding that only criminals had reason to fear the state.
He also reiterated his support for the creation of state police, saying it would complement the Nigeria Police Force’s efforts to tackle insecurity.
The Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, has defended the recent statement by First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on empowering Nigerians to explore small-scale businesses such as akara, roasted corn, and kuli-kuli, which require little capital.
KeepLoss reports that the First Lady, while speaking with journalists in a video that is making rounds online, explained the administration’s support for small businesses through grants rather than loans.
However, her comment angered many netizens, who argued that the remarks were insulting and failed to reflect or address the economic challenges facing many Nigerians.
Speaking against the backdrop of this development during an interview with Seun Okinbaloye on the Mic On podcast, Dare revealed that his mother trained him by selling bananas and oranges in Jos, Plateau State.
He added that he himself hawked the fruits in the Jos markets.
5. Resident Doctors Issue Fresh Four-Week Strike Ultimatum To FG
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has declared an industrial dispute with the Federal Government and issued a fresh four-week ultimatum over unresolved welfare and professional concerns.
KeepLoss reports that the decision was reached at an Extraordinary National Executive Council meeting held virtually on Saturday.
In a communiqué released on Sunday, NARD accused the Federal Government and several health institutions of failing to honour agreements on outstanding allowances, salary arrears and the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund.
“NARD can no longer tolerate the hardship being imposed on doctors through persistent delays in salaries and welfare payments,” the communiqué stated.
The association also decried the non-payment of the 25/35 per cent CONMESS salary review arrears and the 19 months’ Professional Allowance arrears.
6. NDLEA Intercepts ₦12.3 Billion Canadian Loud, Busts Drug Syndicate
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a businesswoman, Iwebema Ogechi Peace, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, after allegedly discovering 7.5 kilograms of cocaine concealed in a false compartment of her luggage.
This was disclosed in a statement to KeepLoss on Sunday signed by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi.
The 38-year-old suspect, who claimed she regularly travelled to China to purchase goods for sale in Nigeria, was arrested on June 21 while preparing to board a Qatar Airways flight to Beijing.
According to the NDLEA, the arrest followed credible intelligence, while a search of her luggage uncovered four large parcels of cocaine professionally concealed beneath a false bottom.
In another major operation, the anti-narcotics agency recovered 4,959 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, with an estimated street value of ₦12.397 billion at the Apapa Port in Lagos.
The seizure followed more than four weeks of intelligence-led surveillance on a 40-foot container carrying 195 sacks of the illicit substance alongside a Ford and a Nissan vehicle.
The container was tracked from Toronto, Canada, through Montreal and Morocco before arriving in Lagos.
The drugs were recovered during a joint examination involving officers of the NDLEA, the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies.
The agency also uncovered a syndicate allegedly involved in planting illicit drugs inside the luggage of unsuspecting interstate travellers.
Nigerian singer, Mr Real, has said he would rather become a bandit than take First Lady Remi Tinubu’s advice to get involved in small-scale businesses.
KeepLoss earlier reported that Tinubu had advised Nigerians to consider starting small businesses, such as akara, roasted corn, and kuli-kuli, which require little capital.
She said, “To start akara business doesn’t take a lot of money. To start roasting corn or kuli-kuli doesn’t take much. We didn’t give them a loan; we gave them a grant. We have encouraged Nigerians as best as we could. I also gave to several others.”
However, speaking via a series of posts on Instagram, Mr Real stated that he would rather join banditry.
The singer rejected the idea of petty trading as a solution to the country’s economic hardships.

He explained in an interview with Dear Ife that his wife is the first person he thinks about when things become too heavy for him, but he tries not to disturb her often because she is busy with her own work and also takes care of their home and family responsibilities.
The actor added that in rare moments when the stress becomes too much, he wakes her up at night to talk and get comfort.
KeepLoss reports that Okanlawon also said he does not depend only on his wife.

10. Manchester United Confirm Manuel Ugarte Knee Ligament Injury
Manchester United have confirmed midfielder Manuel Ugarte sustained a knee ligament injury while on international duty with Uruguay during Friday’s World Cup group-stage defeat to Spain in Guadalajara.
Manuel Ugarte, 25, was stretchered off after twisting his knee awkwardly while attempting a tackle in the build-up to Spain’s winning goal, raising immediate fears over the severity of the injury.
Ugarte was examined by Uruguay’s medical team on Saturday and will now return to Manchester for further assessment before United determine the next stage of his treatment.
Reports in Uruguay have suggested the midfielder may have suffered a cruciate ligament injury, a setback that could sideline him for several months. However, United are waiting for the outcome of their own medical examinations before confirming the full extent of the damage.
The injury comes at an uncertain point in Ugarte’s United career. Signed from Paris Saint-Germain for £50.8 million in 2024, the Uruguayan has struggled to establish himself at Old Trafford and has not featured since starting the Premier League home defeat to Leeds on 13 April.
