It was launched on February 14, 2005, by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim. It is the second most visited website, right after Google itself.

At the end of 2021, YouTube has released statistics of which Ghanaians are getting the most views on their platform with their content.

The release is based on music videos Ghanaian artistes shared on their platform during the year under review and total views accrued.
