Youths Burn Nigerian Singer, Davido’s Poster In Borno, Demand Apology Over ‘Offensive’ Music Video

Some youths on Tuesday set a poster of popular singer, David Adeleke better known as Davido ablaze in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital to demonstrate their grievances against the controversial video clip shared recently on his Twitter account.

Davido posted the 45-second long video clip of Logos Olori’s new song, ‘Jaye Lo,’ on Twitter on Friday, to promote the song ahead of the official release.

However, the video generated controversy as many Muslims including Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, attacked the music superstar over the video. The critics described the music video portraying some men to be praying and dancing in front of a mosque as disrespectful.

Though many of Davido’s fans rose to his defence, many Muslims considered the video offensive to their religion and asked that it should be taken down.

They also asked Davido to apologise to his Muslim fans.

Yielding to the pressure, SaharaReporters’ check on Davido’s social media pages including Twitter and Instagram on Monday morning showed that the video had been deleted.

Protest Rocks Osun Poly Over Removal Of Rector

Protest rocked the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree Chapter, on Tuesday, over the suspension of the institution’s Rector, Dr Tajudeen Odetayo.The protesters, chanting solidarity songs, barricaded the main campus entrance in Iree which left the students writing examination stranded.

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, had suspended Odetayo as the rector of polytechnic over corruption allegations and announced Alabi Adeyemi as the acting rector of the institution.

However, the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) in the institution described the suspension as an aberration which was against the constitution of the institution.

The Chairman of the union, Dr Fatai Afolabi, also declared the suspension of academic activities indefinitely in the institution

Group Charges FG, Int’l Community To Investigate Atiku’s Residence Bombing.

The Global Initiatives For Good Governance (GIGG) has challenged the Federal Government to unravel the mystery behind Monday’s bombing of the residence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

The group also called on the international community to investigate the attack and publish its outcome publicly.

Chief Emeka Kalu, Coordinator of GIGG in a statement to journalists on Tuesday, frowned at the development, suspecting that the attack may be politically motivated.

He challenged the Federal government to as a matter of urgency, investigate the attack and arrest those behind it.

He also called on the international community and all Nigerians to take note of the ugly incident.

He added: “Boko Haram went to his house and detonated bombs. So, if he was at home, he would have been killed.

FG Too Hasty To Remove Subsidy, Ex-Guber Candidate

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has, again, been blamed for being too hasty in removing the controversial fuel subsidy without a corresponding policy formulation to cushion the attendant hardship caused by such decision.

Baring his mind on the issue, the former Rivers State governorship candidate, Prince Tonye Princewill also blamed the organized labour for too silent on the removal of the subsidy on Petrol.

He said Nigerians expected more positive actions from the labour to ensure that government does everything necessary so that citizens do not suffer because of this policy.

The labour Party governorship candidate in 2015 in Rivers State stated that though subsidy removal was not peculiar to Nigeria alone but the decision to do so without putting the necessary measures in place to cushion the effect on the citizens was unacceptable.

Princewill who resigned from the All Progressives Congress, APC, before the 2023 general elections said that the fraud in the subsidy regime must be investigated.

“Subsidy removal is somethinv that I don’t disagree with. I have always agued that it is not the subsidy itself, but the fraud of the subsidy.
