5 INEC ad hoc Staff To Testify Against Tinubu, APC

ABUJA-Five ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, have been okayed to testify as special witnesses in the petition that a former vice president and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, filed to challenge the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.
The INEC ad hoc staff, who participated in the conduct of the disputed presidential election results, were subpoenaed to appear before the Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC.
Atiku, who came second in the presidential contest that held on February 25, had in the joint petition he filed with his party, alleged that the election was rigged in favour of President Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
The former vice president in his 66-page petition, accused the electoral commission of installing a third-party device he said was used to intercept and switch results of the presidential election in favour of the APCand its candidate, Bola Tinubu.
75 Senators-Elect Backs Akpabio–Ali

No fewer than 75 senators-elect are backing Senator Godswill Akpabio for Senate President ahead of next week’s inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, Senator Ali Ndume said last night.
Ahead of the election of the National Assembly presiding officers on June 13, aspirants for Senate President are intensifying their consultations and mobilization.
The valedictory session in the Senate has been shifted to Saturday.
Ndume, the Director-General of Akpabio-Barau Campaign (ABC), who spoke on a Channels Television programme chided the leadership of the ninth Senate for being rubber stamp lawmakers.
Akpabio may even turn out as the consensus candidate because as talks are ongoing to convince other senators, who are still showing strong interest to contest against him.
It’s Shocking – Sultan Of Sokoto Speaks On Murder Of UI Professor, Ajewole

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar has reacted to the murder of Professor Opeyemi Isaac Ajewole in Ibadan.
Abubakar, who doubled as the Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, commisrated with the deceased family over the incident in a statement on Wednesday by Sai’du Maccido, the secretary to the Sultanate Council.
Recall that gunmen murdered Ajewole, a lecturer at UI, on Monday evening on his way home from work.
The Sultan of Sokoto described the killing as saddening and ‘very highly condemnable’.
“We learnt about the brutal killing of one of our professors at the University of Ibadan. As Chancellor of the university, I condemn the killing while also condoling the family of the late professor and the university community.
“We express our sadness for losing such an ingenious don and the originality that he had been able to contribute to the quality of education and knowledge service delivery at the university during his lifetime”, the Sultan stated.
Late Service Of Witnesses’ Statements Stalls Hearing In Atiku, PDP Petition

For the second day running, hearing was yesterday stalled midway in the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate in the February 25 presidential poll, Atiku Abubakar.
The respondents to the PDP/Atiku petition – the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was the ruling party’s standard bearer in the election, objected to the petitioners’ move to call witnesses whose statements were served late.
