President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to inaugurate the Opebi–Mende Link Bridge in Lagos this week, marking the completion of a key infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity and easing traffic within the state.

The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, announced the development in a post on X on Monday, describing the project as a fulfilled promise by the state government.

Akosile said the bridge, also referred to as the Ojota–Opebi link bridge, represents a strategic intervention to enhance movement across major parts of the metropolis and improve travel efficiency for residents.

In a separate statement on Sunday, the Lagos State Government described the Opebi–Mende Link Bridge as a major infrastructure milestone designed to strengthen connectivity between Opebi in Ikeja and Mende in Maryland.

According to the government, the new route is expected to ease traffic congestion around Allen Avenue, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way and Ikorodu Road—some of the city’s busiest corridors.

Officials noted that the bridge would help shorten travel times, reduce commuting stress and improve daily mobility for motorists navigating the Ikeja–Maryland axis.

The state government also highlighted the collaboration between the Ministries of Transportation and Works in delivering the project, describing it as part of ongoing efforts to modernise Lagos’ road network.

Earlier, in October 2025, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, had indicated that the bridge would be inaugurated before the end of the year, as construction neared completion.

The Opebi–Mende Link Bridge is expected to serve as an alternative route for motorists and contribute significantly to decongesting traffic across key sections of the Ikeja and Maryland areas.
