TINUBU APPOINTS RETIRED GENERAL FADEWA AS HOMELAND SECURITY ADVISER

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, a move aimed at strengthening the country’s internal security framework and improving coordination among intelligence and security agencies.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations, Chris Ugwuegbulam, on Monday.

According to the statement, the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to enhancing intelligence-led operations, improving inter-agency collaboration, and tackling emerging security threats across the country.

A circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, described Fadewa as a highly experienced military officer with more than three decades of service in national security, intelligence coordination, counter-terrorism operations, and international security diplomacy.

During his time as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021, Fadewa reportedly played a major role in shaping Nigeria’s intelligence coordination system.

He was credited with leading the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre at the Office of the National Security Adviser, a platform designed to improve intelligence sharing and cooperation among key security agencies including the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces.

Following his retirement from active service, Fadewa served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja, where he focused on issues relating to policing, national security reforms, and civil-security cooperation.

The statement also noted that he authored a monograph titled “Policing and National Security in Nigeria,” which outlined practical approaches to improving collaboration between civilian institutions and security agencies.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the retired general’s experience and strategic background would support the administration’s efforts to build a safer and more secure nation.

He also urged Fadewa to bring his expertise and professionalism to bear in advancing the government’s homeland security initiatives and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
