The United Bank for Africa (United Bank for Africa) has debunked a viral report claiming that its Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, divorced his wife, describing the publication as false, misleading, and malicious.
In a statement, the bank said the report was fabricated and falsely attributed to a reputable media outlet, stressing that no such story was published and that the claims were deliberately designed to damage Elumelu’s reputation.
UBA also accused the perpetrators of orchestrating a coordinated attempt to tarnish the chairman’s image and confirmed that the matter had been reported to law enforcement agencies for investigation.
According to the bank, three individuals have already been arrested in connection with the alleged false publication, while investigations are ongoing to identify others involved in the dissemination of the story.
The institution warned bloggers and social media users to immediately remove the content and avoid further circulation, adding that it remains committed to protecting its chairman’s reputation and will pursue legal action against those responsible.
