SGF Akume meets Ortom, plots PDP’s G5 defection to APC
According to reports, ” deep talks” have started that will result in the five disgruntled PDP leaders defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) before the general election of 2027, under the auspices of the G- 5.
According to PUNCH, the G- 5 group includes former governors of Rivers, Abia, Enugu, and Benue states Nyesom Wike, Okezie Ikpeazu, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and Samuel Ortom in addition to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
Recall how the G5 demanded the ouster of the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, who is currently suspended, in order to support their party’ s presidential candidate, former vice president Atiku Abubakar.
While Ortom publicly supported Peter Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party, Wike and Makinde apparently supported President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who won the February 25th presidential election.
According to Sunday PUNCH, George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has been making persistent efforts to entice the G5 to the APC. After the inauguration on May 29, Wike, the group’ s head, paid Tinubu many visits at the Presidential Villa.
Speaking on the aforementioned venue, Raymond Magen, a former Principal Special Assistant to Ortom, revealed that ” Deep talks” between the APC and the G5 were in progress. In the coming months, he predicted that the conversations may result in the angry PDP leaders defecting.
They are consistently communicating with the APC, Magen added. These discussions between the PDP leaders and the opposition parties go far deeper than simple discussions. There are no signs that they are still engaged in what is happening in their party, thus they might be joining the APC.
” The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, for instance, has been speaking to Ortom, ” the former PSA continued. The discussions are progressing, and it is anticipated that the G- 5 members will reach a consensus. “
According to Diran Odeyemi, a member of the PDP National Executive Committee, Tinubu’ s next appointments would show whether or not any of the G- 5 leaders are still PDP members.
” We have recently heard their statements, and they speak volumes about where their hearts are, he said. It looks that some of them may join the incoming government in the appointments to be made, and if that occurs, it suggests they are already considering life without the PDP. “
” Most of them, in my opinion, will join the APC. In the same way that they no longer express concern over the problems affecting their party, they are not disguising it either. They are frustrated that the PDP mostly disregarded their advice, and it is obvious that now that their worst- case scenario (loss) has occurred, they are focusing on something else. “
Although it is too soon to predict what they would do, he continued, ” it is all too obvious for us to see where their treasures are right now. “
