Seplat Energy Plc has officially announced the appointment of Nigerian billionaire investor and business leader, Dr. Tony O. Elumelu, CFR, as its Chairman-Designate.
According to the company’s announcement, Elumelu’s tenure is scheduled to commence on January 1, 2027, at which point he will succeed the current Chairman, Udoma Udo Udoma.
The development marks a major leadership transition within one of Nigeria’s leading energy companies, strengthening expectations around strategic continuity and governance direction in the sector.
Elumelu, who is the Chairman of Heirs Holdings and United Bank for Africa (UBA), is widely recognised as one of Africa’s most influential business figures with significant investments spanning banking, energy, and infrastructure.
Seplat Energy said the appointment reflects its long-term succession planning framework and commitment to strong corporate governance and stability.
The transition is expected to be implemented gradually to ensure smooth handover of leadership responsibilities ahead of the 2027 commencement date.
