The Rivers State Government has dismissed claims that it is indebted to the Nigerian Legion, Rivers State Chapter, over donations or financial pledges made to the organisation.
The state government, in a statement signed by the Head of the Information and Public Relations Unit, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Juliana Masi, on Sunday, said it had no outstanding financial obligation to the Nigerian Legion.
The government stated that Governor Siminalayi Fubara had fully redeemed the pledge he made during the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance and Celebration, describing the development as a further demonstration of the administration’s commitment to the welfare of ex-servicemen, veterans, widows and families of fallen heroes.
According to the statement, the state government had consistently recognised and supported the Nigerian Legion and remained committed to initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and wellbeing of veterans and their families.

It urged members of the public to disregard claims suggesting that the state government was indebted to the Nigerian Legion in respect of donations or commitments made to the organisation.
The government assured that it would continue to support the Nigerian Legion and initiatives designed to promote the dignity and welfare of veterans, widows and families of fallen heroes.
It also appreciated the sacrifices made by veterans and fallen heroes, saying the state would continue to honour their service and contributions to the nation.
