Reactions trail after court admits that results of 18,088 polling units on INEC portal were blur

The Presidential Election Petition Court admitted in evidence statistical analysis of the February 25 presidential election results and their related appendices on Thursday. The court also admitted as evidence blurred results from 18,088 polling locations from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s results viewing portal.

The evidence was produced by the Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, during the presidential election on February 25. They are contesting the outcome of the election, in which Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress was declared the elected president by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), counsel for the petitioners, represented the LP and Obi during the resumed hearing on Thursday. At the start of the session, the Senior Advocate notified the court of his plan to bring Professor Eric Ofoedu, a mathematics expert, as a witness to testify in the case.

Furthermore, the court accepted as evidence the letter addressed to Professor Ofoedu, asking his expertise, as well as the subpoena placed on him to appear in court.

However, the respondents in the case, notably the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Bola Tinubu, his vice-president Kashim Shettima, and the All Progressives Congress (APC), voiced concerns over the admissibility of these documents.

Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), counsel for the APC, specifically opposed to the subpoena imposed on the witness being admissible. Nonetheless, Fagbemi agreed to the court admitting the letter of engagement as evidence.
