In Abuja, the federal capital, Delta State maintains a lodge for its deputy governor and N3 billion has been earmarked by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for its renovation and furnishing while the Asaba lodge of the same deputy governor got ₦100 million, also unreleased. The money for the deputy’s comfort is appropriated in billions; it simply has not moved yet.
It is not the only lodge. Government House and Protocol carries four separate N300 million lines of N1.2 billion combined for the rehabilitation of the Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, the Governor’s Lodge in Lagos, the Governor’s Lodge in Warri and the Governor’s Annex in Warri. The Ministry of Housing adds the Governor’s Lodge in Lagos again as N60 million for renovation plus N50 million for five beds, one settee and decorations. VIP guest houses in Asaba: N500 million for renovation and furnishing of duplexes 1, 2, 7 and 8, plus N250 million for maintenance.
A new Government House in Asaba will cost the people N550 million as well as new conference centre in Asaba for N500 million, despite having the Dome Event Centre functional and an International Conference Centre built by the immediate past governor that is yet to be used.
The Governor’s Office Annex in Warri is set to gulp N500 million with offices and residential apartments for the SSG and Chief of Staff sweeping away N100 million. Settees, beds and decorations for lodges and guest houses takes another N240 million across the lines.
The Government House clinic, which is the facility meant to treat the governor’s household at home was provided N100 million for medical equipment and in quarter one of the year, zero naira was released for it, whereas international medical expenses was approved at N1.22 billion and Sheriff had already gone abroad to spend N310.2 in just ninety days which is 25.4% of the year’s foreign-treatment money.
The government’s own health narrative, delivered in September 2026, celebrated three new MRI machines and hundreds of health workers for the public hospitals which was publicly documented. But the governor’s own clinic could not get N100 million in equipment released while N310.2 million went abroad for treatment in three months. The local clinic Nigerian politicians have been accused of never funding but the foreign hospitals they will always fund.
The leisure lines complete the installment. “Festival and Cultural Exposition (Rhythm of Delta)” will be dancing for N1 billion and anniversaries and celebrations estimated to gulp N1.15 billion. Equipment for the Ibori Golf Course in Asaba is taking N150 million, a squash hall at the VIP quarters, including a leisure pool smiles away at N150 million while beautification of selected cities swallows 400 million None of these lines has spent a naira in the reported quarter, as the government didn’t disclose it. That is not the exoneration it resembles: the budget is the statement of intent, and the intent was the whole money budgeted and the ones already spent and more to go.
The second-quarter report, which would show whether any of this moved has never been published. The intent of the state governor is all the public is allowed to see, and the intent is lavish.
