Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has appointed Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU).
The appointment brings Professor Badejo into the top administrative position at the institution following the completion of the five-year tenure of Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, announced the appointment in a statement issued on Wednesday.
Badejo, a Professor of Guidance and Counselling, was born on August 4, 1962, and is taking over the leadership of LASU at a time when the university is seeking to consolidate gains recorded under the outgoing administration.
According to the statement, she holds a PhD in Guidance and Counselling as well as a Master of Education degree in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
The statement said, “Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the appointment of Professor BADEJO Ayodeji Olawumi (Nee Faji) as Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU).
“Prof. BADEJO Ayodeji Olawunmi, a Professor of Guidance and Counselling, was born on August 4, 1962.
“She obtained a Ph. D in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and M. Ed. (Guidance and Counselling), UNILAG.”
Badejo succeeds Olatunji-Bello, who assumed office as LASU Vice-Chancellor in September 2021.

Olatunji-Bello left office after five years at the helm of the university, during which her administration highlighted several developments in the institution.

At her final convocation address, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor disclosed that LASU achieved a 96 per cent success rate during its first-year accreditation exercise.
She said 31 out of the 37 academic programmes presented for accreditation received full accreditation.
Olatunji-Bello also highlighted the growth in LASU’s internally generated revenue during her tenure, saying it rose from N3 billion to N13 billion.
Reflecting on her time in office, she described her administration as having transformed the institution into “the most subscribed university in Nigeria and the most digitally advanced among our peers.”
The appointment of Badejo now ushers in a new administration at LASU as the university begins another chapter under a new Vice-Chancellor.
