President Bola Tinubu has dismissed reports alleging that he’s struggling with his health, following his return to Nigeria after spending four weeks abroad on what the Presidency described as a working vacation.
TheNewsGuru earlier reported that President Tinubu arrived in the country via the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos State.
The Nigerian Air Force One, carrying the President, taxied into the Presidential Wing of the MMIA at about 6:22 p.m.
He was received by Lagos Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, Dep Senate President Jibrin Barau, CoS Femi Gbajabiamila and others.
Speaking with journalists, the President, when asked about his vacation, said, “I enjoyed myself.”
Reacting to concerns by some Nigerians about the state of his health, he said, “Ready to kick, ready to work. There’s nothing wrong (with my health). Well, rumours will always emanate from politics. But the fact remains (that) I’m here—healthy, sound and ready to go,” he said.
Earlier in the day, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu had departed Paris for Nigeria and was expected to arrive in Lagos later that evening.
The President travelled to Lagos first to honour the memory of the late Chief MKO Abiola, the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election and a prominent figure in Nigeria’s democratic struggle.
On Thursday, October 1, Independence Day, Tinubu is expected to attend the premiere of a movie celebrating Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.
The Presidency also said Tinubu would hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates in Lagos as part of preparations for the 2027 elections.
