Photos: One dead, three injured as Lexus SUV crashes in Lagos

One person has died while three others sustained serious injuries after a Lexus SUV crashed along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road inward Eko Hotel in Lagos.

The accident occurred on Friday after a grey Lexus SUV 350 with registration number LSD 554 KV reportedly lost control, struck a roadside pole and overturned.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), which confirmed the incident, said preliminary information indicated that the vehicle collided violently with the pole before overturning.

According to the agency, its officials monitoring traffic along the Coastal Road axis responded promptly after the crash and secured the area to facilitate rescue operations.

The three injured occupants were reportedly rescued from the wreckage with assistance from members of the public and taken to Duck-Yard Hospital within the Military Zone for emergency treatment.

Security personnel from Victoria Island also assisted with the rescue operation and management of the accident scene.

LASTMA officials subsequently removed the damaged vehicle from the road to prevent further danger to motorists and other road users and to restore normal traffic flow.

The agency said relevant emergency and security authorities were contacted to support the rescue effort, investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and undertake other necessary safety measures.

LASTMA cautions motorists

Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, sympathised with the family of the deceased and urged motorists to exercise greater caution while driving.

Bakare-Oki warned that excessive speeding, reckless driving and loss of control could result in serious or fatal accidents.

He advised motorists to maintain safe speeds, stay alert and comply with traffic regulations to reduce the risk of crashes on Lagos roads.

The LASTMA boss also appealed to members of the public to promptly report accidents, vehicle breakdowns, road obstructions and other emergencies to the agency through its toll-free line, 3367, for immediate intervention.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
