“Wetin I go do with your intellect?” – Tekno weighs in on ‘Olodo Uprising’ trend, Carter Efe’s popularity

Afrobeats singer Tekno has weighs in on the “Olodo Uprising,” trend questioning the growing emphasis on intellectualism in the entertainment industry.

Speaking on Yanga FM, the singer argued that people do not always consume entertainment because of intelligence or intellectual depth, noting that simple humour and goofy behaviour can also keep audiences entertained.

Tekno made the remark while reflecting on the popularity of comedian Carter Efe and legendary Nollywood actors such as Osuofia and Mr Ibu.

“Intellectual no dey work again. Wetin I go do with your intellect? I can watch Carter Efe for hours and just be laughing at him, just being goofy, because that’s interesting,” he stated.

The singer compared the trend to the way audiences enjoyed characters such as Osuofia and Mr Ibu in the past, noting that their appeal often came from their humorous and seemingly foolish behaviour.

He explained that the major difference today is that people can display such personalities from the comfort of their homes and earn money from it.

“Back in the day wey you dey watch Osuofia and Mr. Ibu, wetin make you been like them? No be the mumu wey dem dey mumu? So it’s nothing new, just that now you can do mumu in your own home and get paid,” he added.

Tekno’s comments come amid conversations around the phrase “Olodo Uprising,” which has been used to describe the growing popularity of entertainers who rely on humour, simplicity and unconventional content.
