The candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for Southern Ijaw Local Government Area (SILGA) Constituency 4, Hon. Pere Alfred, has reaffirmed his commitment to becoming a strong and effective voice for the people if elected into the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.
Following his emergence as the party’s flag bearer, supporters and political stakeholders have described Alfred as a bridge between the people and government, expressing confidence in his capacity to champion the interests of constituents at the state legislature.
Speaking on his vision for the constituency, Alfred emphasized the need for responsive and people-centered representation that prioritizes the concerns of ordinary citizens, including fishermen, farmers, students, women, and youths.
According to him, representation should go beyond occupying a legislative seat and focus on ensuring that the voices of the people are heard where critical decisions are made.
Political observers within the constituency have likened Alfred’s role to that of an “amplifier” — one who does not create the people’s aspirations but strengthens and projects them to the highest levels of government.
They noted that his emergence offers an opportunity for residents of SILGA Constituency 4 to have a representative who is willing to engage directly with communities, listen to their concerns, and advocate policies that address challenges such as infrastructure deficits, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.
Supporters further highlighted his readiness to participate actively in legislative debates, sponsor people-oriented bills, and maintain regular consultations with constituents to ensure that governance remains inclusive and accountable.
“Representation is not about who speaks the loudest in the Assembly chambers, but about who carries the voices of the people into those chambers,” a supporter remarked.
As preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, many residents are hopeful that Alfred’s candidacy will usher in a new era of grassroots-focused leadership and effective representation for SILGA Constituency 4.
For many constituents, the expectation is clear: a representative who will not only occupy a seat in the Assembly but one who will ensure that the concerns, aspirations, and dreams of the people resonate throughout the legislative process.
With his emergence as the NDC candidate, Hon. Pere Alfred has pledged to remain committed to the trust reposed in him and to work tirelessly towards delivering meaningful representation for the people of SILGA Constituency 4.
