The Anambra State Police Command has arrested the parents of twin infants whose lifeless bodies were discovered in a drainage channel at Okpoko on Saturday, June 21, 2026.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, described the incident as “man’s inhumanity to man” and a gross violation of the sanctity of human life.
According to a statement by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives attached to Okpoko Divisional Police Headquarters received information in the early hours of Saturday about two lifeless infant twins abandoned in a drainage along Cooperative Street, Nwokedi, Okpoko.
Officers immediately secured the scene, gathered vital evidence, and launched an investigation. Preliminary findings led to the identification and arrest of the biological parents, who are now in police custody assisting with inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
CP Orutugu condemned the act in strong terms, stressing that “every child deserves protection, care, and the opportunity to live.” He commended operatives for their swift response and diligent investigative work that led to the quick arrest.
The Commissioner reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring anyone found culpable faces the full weight of the law. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
