NUJ confers Man of the Year award on DSS boss

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has conferred its Man of the Year Award on the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi.

The award was announced at the NUJ National Security Summit held in Abuja from June 18 to 19, 2026, organised in collaboration with the DSS under the theme “Media and Security Agencies as Partners in Nation Building.”

A statement issued Sunday at the end of the summit by the NUJ National President, Alhassan Abdullahi, said the award reflects Ajayi’s commitment to fostering openness, dialogue and mutual understanding between security agencies and the media.

“The NUJ noted that the Man of the Year Award recognises not only the Director-General’s professional accomplishments but also his leadership style, which is anchored on transparency, professionalism, inclusiveness, and a shared commitment to national progress,” the statement read.

The union also commended the DSS for supporting the successful hosting of the summit and promoting dialogue-based approaches to Nigeria’s security challenges.

Participants at the summit reaffirmed the importance of collaboration between the media and security agencies in safeguarding democracy, combating misinformation and promoting national cohesion.

They also called for sustained engagement, capacity building and stronger institutional communication frameworks.

The NUJ expressed appreciation to stakeholders who contributed to the success of the summit and reiterated its commitment to responsible journalism, press freedom and constructive engagement with security institutions.
