The All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party have approached the Osun State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal to challenge the declaration of Governor Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The two petitions were displayed on the notice board of the tribunal’s secretariat in Osogbo on Monday, September 7, formally setting in motion the legal process arising from the election.
The APC petition, marked **EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026**, was filed by its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, against Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The second petition, marked **EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026**, was filed by the PDP’s candidate, Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola, against Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party.
Both petitions were dated Saturday, September 5, 2026, the final day of the 21-day period prescribed for challenging the outcome of the election.
The Secretary of the tribunal, Pefe Belemore, confirmed that two petitions challenging the election had been received.
Belemore said the required notices would be displayed on the tribunal’s notice board to enable the respondents to be formally served and allow subsequent proceedings to commence.
The tribunal is expected to consider the petitions in accordance with the Electoral Act and other laws governing election disputes.
The specific grounds upon which the petitioners are challenging Adeleke’s victory had not been publicly disclosed at the time of this report.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, was declared the winner by INEC after polling **511,067 votes**.
His closest challenger, Oyebamiji of the APC, scored **444,815 votes**.
The display of the petitions clears the way for service on the respondents, pre-hearing proceedings and the eventual determination of the challenges against Adeleke’s re-election.
