Former Delta State Commissioner for Finance and Chairman of the Warri Urhobo APC Leadership Council, Olorogun Bernard Okumagba, has called on the Itsekiri, Ijaw and Urhobo ethnic nationalities in Warri Federal Constituency to embrace peace, unity and mutual respect.
Okumagba, who holds the traditional chieftaincy titles of Udu of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom and Eruvwu R’Ovie of Agbarha Warri Kingdom, made the call in a statement issued on Saturday.
He said peaceful coexistence and brotherliness among the ethnic groups would enable the people to focus their energies on attracting development and improving the livelihoods of residents.
“Peace and brotherliness amongst all ethnic nationalities in Warri Federal Constituency will ensure that all our energies are devoted to bringing development to Warri and enhancing the livelihoods of all our people in Warri,” he said.
The former commissioner urged the people to resolve disagreements peacefully and pursue shared goals across ethnic lines.
He said the focus should include attracting infrastructure projects and investments, revitalising the ports and creating gainful employment and thriving businesses for people of all ethnic nationalities in Warri.
Okumagba called for unity, inter-ethnic harmony and respect for the various kingdoms, urging residents to work collectively for peace, progress and prosperity.
“We are neighbours and should promote good and peaceful brotherly neighbourliness for the benefit of all our people of all ethnic nationalities in Warri,” he added. “Let us promote love.”
