Ogun State Withdraws Demolition Notice on Ex-Governor Gbenga Daniel’s Properties

The Ogun State government has reversed its decision to seal properties belonging to former Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel, citing procedural compliance with legal requirements.

The state’s Planning and Development Permit Authority had on Monday sealed several properties owned by the former governor, including Asoludero Court, Conference Hotels, and its annexe in the Sagamu Government Reserved Area (GRA). The agency had issued contravention and demolition notices the previous week.

The development was widely viewed as connected to political tensions between Daniel and the current state leadership, both members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly regarding their senatorial ambitions for Ogun East in 2027.

Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning, TPL Tunji Odunlami, explained that the withdrawal was necessary to ensure full compliance with legal procedures. He noted that the three-day notice issued on Friday had not actually elapsed due to the intervening weekend.

“We had to retrieve the notice of seal owing to the two-day gap over the weekend from the last notice last week,” Odunlami told journalists. “We will ensure we follow the law thoroughly and not contravene any citizen’s rights.”

The commissioner clarified that similar exercises had been conducted in Abeokuta and were being extended to other areas, including Sagamu, Ijebuode, Ota, and Ilaro, where Government Reserved Areas exist.

Odunlami appealed to Daniel to present the necessary documentation to the relevant government offices for verification and possible clearance. “All the owner of any building served the notice needs to do is simply go to the office that issued the notice and present their permits and other documents for verification,” he said.

He added that as of the time of speaking, Senator Daniel had not made any representation or submitted documents for verification.

It would be recalled in a developing story that Apples Bite Magazine had reported on Friday, August 8, at about 4 pm, a representative of Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Authority had visited the Asoludero Court and Conference Hotel properties of Otunba Gbenga Daniel, an ex governor of the state, to paste both contravention and quit notices with a threat to demolish in three days, an act which has been widely condemned by the public and pundits alike.
