The Nigerian Army has stepped up efforts to improve operational effectiveness and institutional accountability with the introduction of a standardised evaluation framework aimed at strengthening professionalism across its formations and units.
This was disclosed in a press release issued on Tuesday, April 29, 2026, by Colonel Appolonia Aniele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, following a sensitisation seminar organised by the Army Headquarters Department of Standards and Evaluation at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre and Suites, Asokoro, Abuja.
The seminar brought together senior officers and key stakeholders to deepen understanding of structured performance assessment systems designed to reinforce discipline and enhance operational outcomes within the military.
Declaring the seminar open, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu, represented by the Military Secretary (Army), Maj Gen Everest Okoro, described the initiative as a significant step in the Army’s pursuit of institutional excellence and improved service delivery.
He explained that the Department of Standards and Evaluation serves as the Army’s quality assurance body, tasked with ensuring compliance with established standards, conducting combat-readiness assessments, and reviewing operational activities across various units.
According to him, these processes are intended to identify operational strengths, address identified gaps, and promote continuous improvement in military performance.
In his remarks, the Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation, Maj Gen Bobby Ugiagbe, said the seminar was organised to encourage the systematic application of standards across the Nigerian Army, with the goal of strengthening discipline, professionalism, and operational efficiency.
He added that the initiative would support the institutionalisation of uniform evaluation practices aimed at improving overall performance outcomes across formations.
The statement further noted that the introduction of the framework reflects the Nigerian Army’s commitment to embedding a culture of accountability, precision, and continuous improvement in line with global best practices in modern military operations.
