Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has removed the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam, from office with immediate effect.
The development was announced on Saturday in a public service statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr Monday Uzor.
Although the governor did not disclose the reason for Mbam’s removal, the former commissioner has been directed to immediately hand over all government property in his possession to the Secretary to the State Government.
The directive specifically includes his official vehicle.
Mbam was also ordered to transfer the responsibilities of the Ministry of Works to the Permanent Secretary pending further directives from the state government.
In the statement, the governor assured residents that his administration remained focused on effective governance and the improvement of public infrastructure across the state.
The latest development comes months after Mbam was subjected to an earlier disciplinary measure by the governor.

In February 2026, Nwifuru suspended Mbam indefinitely alongside the then Commissioner for Infrastructure Development for Concession, Engr. Ogbonnaya Obasi Abara, over alleged dereliction of duty.
Mbam subsequently appealed for another opportunity to serve and was later recalled before his latest removal from office.
The governor’s latest directive leaves the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works to oversee the ministry’s affairs until further instructions are issued by the state government.
The state government has not indicated who will replace Mbam as commissioner.
