A Nigerian lady has sparked reactions online after calling on Nigerians to acknowledge the alleged decline in the price of a bag of rice.
In a viral video shared on social media, the lady noted that a bag of rice now sells for about ₦32,000, urging Nigerians to appreciate the development instead of only speaking up when prices increase.
She argued that people should acknowledge positive changes when they occur, just as they are quick to criticise unfavourable developments.
Lady urges Nigerians to appreciate lower rice prices
According to her, Nigerians should “try to appreciate the changes” so that those responsible would know that people are aware of improvements in the economy.
She said, “It has dropped, 32,000 Naira for one bag of rice. When you see changes, try and appreciate.”
The lady also compared the situation to the importance of appreciating workers and children when they show improvement.
She, however, criticised traders who continue to sell rice at around ₦40,000 despite the reported decline in prices.
She said some sellers often justify the higher price by claiming they purchased their stock before the market price dropped.
The lady urged Nigerians to acknowledge positive developments while also speaking out whenever prices rise again.
Her comments have since generated reactions online, with social media users sharing different opinions about the current cost of rice and whether the reported price reflects what consumers pay across different parts of Nigeria.
