Northern Govs’ Support For Tinubu Is Based On What Appointment They Are Going To Get- Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani has cautioned Bola Tinubu, a former federal legislator who is getting ready to take over as president from Muhammadu Buhari, not to name departing governors as ministers when experts may be considered.

Shehu Sani said in an interview with Arise that the governors shouldn’t be considering receiving ministerial positions if they sincerely supported Bola Tinubu out of a sense of loyalty to their country and nationalism.

But Shehu Sani pointed out that some departing governors, notably those from the north, backed Bola Tinubu in exchange for the ministerial positions they could obtain from him.

He argued that Tinubu should choose a team that will represent Nigerians’ interests instead of allowing himself to be misled by them.

You should hire professionals in every field, Shehu Sani remarked. However, you shouldn’t employ a departing governor as a minister only because he has claimed to have assisted you in winning the election. He should be anticipated to be appointed into any office if he has done that in the service of the nation. There shouldn’t be any expectations of an appointment if they did it because they insist they did it out of patriotism and nationalistic motivations.

“I am fully aware that, in particular, the northern governors, their support for Tinubu depends on the type of appointment they would receive; if they do not, they will incite ethnic animosity against him. That is the truth. Bola Tinubu must therefore choose a team that would actually work for Nigeria rather than politicians who are only going to be in office for the sake of it.
