Grace-Charis Bassey Effah, a former Nollywood actress and now a United States Navy officer, has announced her engagement.
She shared the news on Facebook on Tuesday, posting photos with her fiancé. While she did not reveal who he is, she did show her engagement ring in the pictures.
“Answered prayers,” she said.
“It feels like a dream, but when true love finds you, you melt.”
She did not give details about the proposal or share her fiancé’s name, but she expressed happiness and gratitude as she celebrated this milestone.
This engagement is a new chapter for Bassey, who left Nollywood in 2025 to start a military career in the United States.
Bassey, who used to go by Belinda Effah, made headlines when she graduated from the United States Navy boot camp and became a citizen by taking the oath of allegiance.
She dedicated this achievement to her late father, Asido Bassey Effah, who was a retired naval commander.
Earlier, she explained that she left acting because she no longer found it fulfilling.n.
She also said that joining the US Navy has been a lifelong dream. She attended Nigerian Navy Secondary School in Port Harcourt and grew up in a military family.
Grace started her Nollywood career in 2005 with the TV series ‘Shallow Waters’. She later took a break from the show to appear on the reality show ‘Next Movie Star’.
During her career, she won several awards, including ‘Most Promising Act of the Year’ at the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards.
In 2021, she announced that she had changed her name from Belinda to Grace-Charis after what she called a divine encounter. She said her old name had a complicated meaning, which led her to change it.
