The President Bola Tinubu-led administration has declared Thursday, October 1, 2026, a public holiday to mark Nigeria’s 66th independence anniversary.
TheNewsGuru reports that Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, made the announcement in a statement issued on Wednesday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to use the occasion to promote unity, peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.
He said peace and stability were necessary for national development and urged citizens to uphold the values of national unity as the country marks the anniversary.
