The newly elected President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, has pledged to lead the association with fairness, accountability and a commitment to serving the interests of legal practitioners across the country.
Badejo-Okusanya made the pledge on Sunday in her first address after emerging victorious in the 2026 NBA presidential election, in which she defeated two other Senior Advocates of Nigeria to become the association’s new leader.
Expressing gratitude to members of the legal profession for the confidence reposed in her, she described her victory as a collective achievement for lawyers who believe the NBA can become stronger, more inclusive and more responsive to the needs of its members.
“I am truly humbled by the confidence that members of the Nigerian Bar Association have reposed in me by electing me to serve as your President,” she said.
The senior lawyer thanked members who supported her campaign, noting that the election reflected a shared commitment to building a more effective and member-focused Bar.
She revealed that her campaign took her across Nigeria, where she engaged lawyers in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), interactions she said gave her valuable insight into the challenges, expectations and aspirations of members.
According to Badejo-Okusanya, those engagements will guide the priorities of her administration as she works to strengthen the association and improve its relevance to lawyers nationwide.

She also extended an olive branch to members who supported other candidates, urging the legal community to put the election behind them and work together in advancing the legal profession.
“I extend my sincere appreciation to every member who participated in this election, regardless of the candidate you supported. The election is over. We are one Bar, united by a common commitment to the advancement of our profession and the defence of justice and the rule of law,” she stated.
Badejo-Okusanya reiterated her commitment to promoting unity within the NBA while ensuring transparent leadership, accountability and policies that reflect the collective interests of members.
She stressed that her administration would focus on strengthening the association, protecting the rule of law and enhancing the welfare and professional development of lawyers across Nigeria.
