The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has condemned alleged reports that some tertiary institutions are delaying or refusing to refund students whose tuition fees had already been paid before NELFUND’s disbursement.
In a statement on Monday, NELFUND expressed concern about reports alleging that some institutions have arbitrarily increased tuition fees and other charges.
It noted that the scheme was established to remove financial barriers to higher education and not to create additional burdens for students.
According to the statement, NELFUND was already engaging with the affected institutions and relevant authorities to ensure that eligible students received refunds for tuition fees paid before the loan disbursements.
The engagement also aims to ensure that tuition fees and other institutional charges remain fair, transparent, and aligned with the scheme’s objectives.
The scheme reaffirmed NELFUND’s commitment to protecting students’ interests and preserving the scheme’s integrity.
It urged all participating institutions to uphold the initiative’s objectives and ensure that students fully benefit from the intervention.
