Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested a 44-year-old Lagos businesswoman, Chioma Nneka Mokeme, over two consignments of Canadian Loud intercepted at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja.
This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday, July 19, 2026, by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.
According to the statement, the two consignments of Canadian Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis, weighed a combined 4.70 kilograms. The cargoes arrived at the Lagos airport from Canada in cartons boldly marked ‘Odugwu’. They came aboard British Airways and Ethiopian Airlines flights on June 24 and July 3 respectively.
NDLEA said two cargo agents, Ali Rotimi Samson and Orimolade Oluwagbenga, linked to the shipments were initially arrested. Another suspect, Edeh Onyeamachi StanisIus, who showed up to take delivery of the consignments from a logistics company, was also nabbed.
The agency said the actual owner of the consignments, Chioma Nneka Mokeme, was eventually arrested on July 7, 2026, in collaboration with the Area C Command of the Nigeria Police, Surulere, Lagos.
During interrogation, Chioma, who claimed to be in the printing business, alleged that her friend, Agbons Collins, who lives in Canada, introduced her into the criminal trade.
The NDLEA said investigations into the matter are ongoing.
