NAF airstrikes destroy terrorist hideout, neutralise insurgents in Borno

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has recorded another major success in the fight against insurgency, destroying a terrorist enclave and neutralising several fighters during a precision air operation in Borno State.

The operation was carried out by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI in the Yaganari, Gezuwa general area following intelligence reports indicating renewed terrorist activities in the location.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.

According to the Air Force spokesperson, the strikes were executed on July 10 after credible intelligence pointed to the presence of terrorists regrouping in the area.

He explained that intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions were conducted to verify the information before the operation commenced.

The surveillance confirmed the existence of terrorist camps, logistics facilities and other strategic infrastructure, which were subsequently targeted in the coordinated air assault.

The precision bombardment destroyed the identified structures and eliminated several insurgents operating from the enclave.

NAF stated that the air operation forms part of the military’s sustained campaign to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt their logistics chain and prevent them from regrouping.

The service noted that denying insurgents safe havens remains a critical objective of Operation HADIN KAI as security forces intensify efforts to restore lasting peace in the North-East.

Reacting to the successful mission, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, commended the personnel involved for their professionalism and effective execution of the operation.

He reiterated the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to sustaining aggressive air operations in collaboration with ground troops to eliminate terrorist threats across the region.

Aneke assured Nigerians that the Air Force would continue to support joint military operations aimed at destroying terrorist strongholds, disrupting their movements and preventing them from rebuilding their operational capabilities.
