Nigerian Air Force aircraft (NAF) have carried out a precision strike on a terrorist enclave in Katsina State, destroying a major hideout and killing several fighters.
The operation, conducted on May 1 under the air component of operation Fansan Yamma, targeted a location within the Dan-Aji Forest in Faskari LGA, according to the Nigerian Air Force.
In a statement issued in Abuja, air commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the director of public relations and information said the strike was based on credible intelligence indicating renewed terrorist activity in the area.
According to him, the target is a known logistics hub linked to Abasu Aiki, a terrorist kingpin and his fighters operating across the Faskari, Kankara, and Funtua axis.
He said intelligence reports indicated renewed terrorist activities in the area, prompting the strike.
“NAF air assets identified armed terrorists on motorcycles alongside other fighters within the enclave and executed a coordinated strike on the location.
“Battle damage assessment confirmed that several terrorists were neutralised, while the logistics hub and associated structures were destroyed,” he said.
Following the bombardment, battle damage assessment confirmed that several terrorists were killed, while the logistics base and associated structures were completely destroyed.
The air force also reported explosions and widespread fire at the target site, which further degraded the group’s operational capability and disrupted its supply chain.
Ejodame added that the mission is part of ongoing efforts to deny terrorists safe havens and dismantle their operational networks across the country.
He reaffirmed that the Nigerian Air Force remains committed to sustained air operations aimed at weakening insurgent and bandit groups operating in forested and remote areas.
