The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday disclosed that, in the 34 months of Ola Olukoyede’s tenure as chairman, the agency has recovered N1.233tn and secured 10,872 convictions between October 1, 2023 and July 31, 2026.
The Commission shared this on its official X account on Thursday, stressing its enforcement and recovery activities under Olukoyede.
The anti-graft agency also said it received 49,673 petitions during the period, investigated 39,615 cases, and filed 14,476 cases in court, resulting in 10,872 convictions.
The EFCC said the cases covered various forms of financial crime, including advance-fee fraud, cybercrime, money laundering, bank fraud and economic governance-related offences.
The Commission described petitions as the entry point for its investigations, saying the figures represented cases in which it traced financial trails and recovered funds linked to financial crimes.
“₦1.233 trillion in recoveries in just 34 months. This is the legacy of EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede,” the Commission said in the video.
The EFCC said the figures reflected its efforts to investigate financial crimes, prosecute suspects and recover public resources and other proceeds linked to financial offences.
The Commission also highlighted how investigations trace financial transactions and uncover assets linked to suspected financial crimes.
The latest figures follow Olukoyede’s August account of his stewardship, when the EFCC disclosed that its total recoveries during the period also included $684.48m, £373,905.78 and €9.34m.
The Commission said its work against economic and financial crimes would continue.
“The work continues,” the EFCC said.
