“My pay was over 500,000 naira” — Graduate recounts how course mate’s father employed him before NYSC

A graduate has shared how consistently helping a female course mate academically eventually led to her father offering him a job that paid over ₦500,000.

According to the man, their friendship began in 100 level after students in their WhatsApp group struggled with a mathematics problem.

He solved the question and posted his calculations, prompting more than 50 classmates to send him private messages.

Among them was the female student, who asked him to tutor her. He claimed he continued helping her academically from their first year until graduation.

Course mate introduces brilliant student to father

The man said his course mate regarded him highly and had previously introduced him to her boyfriend as her “guru” and the most brilliant student in their class.

Their academic relationship eventually produced an unexpected opportunity on graduation day when the woman’s parents visited the school.

He recalled that she pointed him out to her father, who congratulated him for graduating as the best student in his department and collected his phone number.

A few days later, the father reportedly contacted him and offered him employment as an administrator even before he proceeded for the National Youth Service Corps programme.

The graduate said, “No certificate required. My pay was over 500,000 naira.”

Graduate shares lesson from unexpected job connection

Reflecting on how the opportunity came through someone he had helped for years without expecting employment in return, the man encouraged people to pay attention to how they treat those around them.

He stated, “The connection you are looking for is in the hands of people around you. And it might not be in the hands of those you look up to, but the ones you look down on and disrespect.”

He concluded, “Treat people right, even when you have nothing to gain from them.”
