Some Muslims urged with President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu to pick more members of their own faith than their Christian counterparts, leading to indications this week that the competition for positions in the future federal administration’s cabinet had increased.

According to PUNCH NEWS, They asked Tinubu to appoint at least four Muslim ministers in states with a majority of Muslims from each geopolitical zone after his election. There are six states in each of the six geopolitical regions: South-South, South-West, North-Central, North-East, and North-West.

One native American from each of the 36 states that make up the federation shall serve in the federal government, according to the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

The ‘Ministers of Federal Government’ Section 6, Part 1, Section 147 of the Constitution expressly states: “3 – Any appointment under Subsection 2 by the President shall be in compliance with the provisions of Section 14 (3) of this Constitution: provided, That in giving effect to the provisions aforesaid, the President shall appoint at least one person to serve as the Minister of Federal Government under the President.”
