Some troops of the Nigerian Military have arrested a suspected spy around the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-terrorism expert, said troops of the 176 Guards Battalion arrested the suspect on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
According to Makama, the suspect spy was found loitering around a restricted area of the airport, raising suspicion about his presence and mission.
“Security sources said the arrest was made at about 4:30 p.m. on May 9, 2026, during a routine foot patrol conducted by troops around the highly restricted zone.
“The suspect was reportedly intercepted after being observed moving suspiciously within the vicinity of the secured area,” Makama said.
He also explained that a quick search by security operatives showed that the suspect had in his possession, a wallet containing two ATM cards, receipts, and several passport photographs.
“The suspect is currently in military custody and is undergoing further interrogation to determine the motive for his presence in the restricted area,” he added.
Recall that in March, a similar incident occurred at the Akure Airport where suspected bandits were arrested by security operatives in the facility.
Residents of the Eleyewo community which houses the airport, said some strange men on motorcycles were seen moving behind the airport perimeter suspiciously.
The residents said fear gripped community members when a woman and some young men were seen running from their farms behind the airport fence.
They were said to have been screaming for help after noticing the unusual movement of the men approaching the area on their motorcycles.
