Meet Isla: The Girl Who Undergone 65 surgeries At Just 14 Years Old

Isla Grist is a young girl from the Scottish Highlands, specifically from Black Isle near Inverness. Isla was born with a skin condition known as butterfly skin, which causes the skin to easily tear or blister upon even the slightest touch. Isla has been living with this condition her entire life, and unfortunately, there is no cure for it.

At just 14, Isla has undergone 65 surgeries.

Throughout her life, Isla has had to be wrapped in bandages from head to toe. These bandages need to be changed three times a week, and this process is incredibly painful for her. Isla faces great challenges due to the blisters that appear all over her body, with nearly half of her body lacking skin coverage.

Graeme Souness, Former Liverpool star inspired by Isla’s story, plans to swim the English Channel to raise funds for Isla’s medical treatment and to support others living with this rare skin disease.
