The Police at Onireke Division, Lagos State, have arraigned a 30-year-old man, Ikechukwu Enyeobi, before the Ojo Magisterial District over alleged conduct likely to cause breach of public peace and threat to the life of his father, Donatus Ikechukwu.

The defendant was brought before Court 1, Ojo, presided over by His Honour L.K.J. Layeni following a charge sheet filed by the Commissioner of Police.

The case was prosecuted by SP Uche Simon, after investigation by Inspector Obajulaye Adefemi attached to Onireke Division.

According to the charge sheet, the incident occurred on 25th April, 2026, at Kareem Giwa Street, Abule Osun, in the Ojo Magisterial District of Lagos State.

Police alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace by allegedly smoking substance suspected to be Indian hemp inside a residential compound, where underaged children are residing, thereby exposing their lives to moral danger. The offence is said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 168 (d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

It was further alleged that the same defendant, on the same date, time and place, threatened the life of his father, Donatus Ikechukwu, by stating that he would kill him. Police alleged that the threat was made because his father advised him to stop smoking the suspected illicit substance within the compound. The offence is said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 56 (a) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

When the two-count charge was read to the defendant in court, he pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate L.K.J. Layeni, in his ruling, granted bail to the defendant with two responsible sureties who must show evidence of means of livelihood and evidence of tax payment.

The court ordered that the defendant be remanded in custody at the Correctional Center pending the perfection of his bail conditions. The matter was adjourned to 20th May, 2026, for further hearing.

Abule Osun, where the incident allegedly occurred, is a densely populated residential community in Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State. The area is home to many families with young children and has witnessed growing concerns from residents over the use of suspected illicit substances in shared compounds and public spaces.

Community leaders and landlords in the area have repeatedly called for stronger collaboration between residents and security agencies to curb drug-related activities and to protect minors from moral and health hazards.

Police authorities at Onireke Division said they remain committed to maintaining peace and ensuring that all complaints bordering on breach of public peace and threat to life are promptly investigated and brought before the court where necessary.

The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by the court.
