The Kwara State Government has taken custody of a newborn baby allegedly abandoned by her mother, who is reported to be a student, shortly after delivery at a private hospital in the state.
According to sources, the incident occurred when the young mother reportedly left the facility without the baby after giving birth, prompting hospital authorities to alert relevant government agencies.
Officials from the state’s social welfare department subsequently intervened and took custody of the infant to ensure her safety and proper care.
Authorities have commenced investigations to identify the mother and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Efforts are also underway to provide the child with necessary medical attention and support.
The state government reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable children and urged the public to report cases of abandonment or distress to appropriate authorities for timely intervention
