Kogi State Police Command has presented Group Life Assurance cheques worth N18.18 million to families of police officers who died in the line of duty.
The cheques, valued at N18,186,438.25, were presented as part of the Nigeria Police Force’s welfare programme for families of deceased personnel.
The presentation took place at the Kogi State Police Command headquarters in Lokoja, where the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, handed over the cheques on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
According to a statement issued yesterday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Afusat, Kankarofi conveyed the condolences of the Inspector-General to the bereaved families and acknowledged the sacrifices made by the deceased officers in the course of their service.
He said the financial benefits could not replace the lives lost but were intended to provide support to the affected families and help them meet some of their immediate and future needs.
The commissioner urged the beneficiaries to use the funds prudently, particularly for the welfare and education of their children and other dependants.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to the welfare of police personnel and their families, assuring that it would continue to support initiatives aimed at assisting officers, their dependants and families of personnel who die in the line of duty.
