Kelly Osbourne is platforming freedom in every sense as she raises her lovely son, Sidney.
The singer affirmed that when it comes to explaining gender related terms to her 3-year-old, she does not slam labels on it; instead, she is giving him a chance to express himself fully.
Kelly Osbourne welcomed Sidney with her ex-fiancé, Sid Wilson, in late 2022 in what the media personality described as a hectic birth process.
The doting mom got candid in an interview published on Monday, August 31, about how she handles parenting with Sidney and the lessons she has learned along the journey. Kelly admitted that patience has become a mainstay in her life now, thanks to motherhood.
“You can’t make your kids be anything; they will become exactly who they want to be. When he’s dysregulated, I just sit with him and let him go through it,” the mother-of-one emphasized. Kelly stressed to Hello Magazine that she does not try to control Sidney’s feelings because she fully understands that they are his, around the clock.
Kelly continued in the interview that she sometimes gets frustrated about the process and she finds it extremely annoying; however, more than anything, she understands the importance of Sidney finding his voice and becoming confident.

Kelly added that part of raising Sidney to be independent also means never attempting to explain gender to him or make him normalize addressing anyone with a designated pronoun. She argued that one belief she holds is that gender is not a concept a 3-year-old boy needs to understand.
Kelly continued that each day she watches her son unravel new layers to his personality, and shuffle between different areas of interest. According to her: “One day he loves Gabby’s Dollhouse, and the next day we’re at Rugbytots, and he’s loving every moment of the physicality and the rough play.”
Kelly noted that when he meets new people, he naturally addresses them by how they present themselves and not with any preconceived idea of what their gender should be. She gushed about never having to teach him this, and watching him do it from pure instinct remains very special to her.

However, the one thing she would do differently is limit her son’s access to bars and exposure to alcohol at age 15, like she was. Kelly had never been shy about admitting her teen partying and drinking phase, revealing that she is a person with an addiction whose relationship with alcohol will always be far from normal.
She noted that when she relapsed, she eventually realized it was not something she wanted to do for a long time, leading her to quit. Kelly previously explained that she experienced a nervous breakdown during the COVID-19 lockdown that caused her to slip on her sobriety journey.

She described doing tasks as simple as trimming Sidney’s fingernails as a true test of her patience and steadiness, which has her on edge at all times.
She recalled leaning on her parents for support, noting that their advice was to understand that her life was also now actively involved her child and she must not make it all about herself.
Kelly’s mother, Sharon Osbourne, also communicated the importance of self-care to the media personality, clarifying to her that taking time out to focus on herself must be prioritized.
