Aminu Sanda, a Katsina State resident popularly known as Nesta, is currently facing a treasonable felony charge alongside other allegations after he was accused of destroying campaign billboards belonging to President Bola Tinubu and breaking into the state secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
TheNewsGuru reports that Sanda was also remanded in custody after being transferred from Katsina to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
He has denied all the allegations, insisting that he could not have targeted Tinubu’s campaign billboards because he is the Katsina State chairman of the Dikko/Tinubu Vanguard, a political support group for the President.
“How can I, being the state chairman of Dikko/Tinubu Vanguard, a political support group for the President, turn around to pull down his billboards? It does not make sense,” Sanda was quoted as saying.
The allegations also mention breaking into the Katsina APC secretariat and the alleged theft of N35 million.
Sanda’s lawyers have denied the allegations and questioned why their client is being held for so long while the investigation continues. They said that such serious charges should be backed by credible evidence and handled according to due process.
After Sanda was moved to Abuja, the police got an order from a Magistrate Court in Jiwa, Federal Capital Territory, to keep him in custody while they continued their investigation.
At first, the police asked the court for a two-week remand through a motion ex parte, saying they needed more time to look into the allegations.
When Sanda’s lawyers went to court on Tuesday to ask for his release on bail, the police responded by filing another request to extend his detention for two more weeks.
The prosecution said they needed more time to finish other parts of the investigation.
Magistrate Huzaifa Macchudo decided to delay the decision on the bail application.
Sanda’s lawyers said they were worried that the delay might let the police get another extension to keep him in custody before the court decides on his bail.The court then postponed the case until September 15, when it will rule on the bail application.n.
Sanda will stay in custody until the court makes its decision. The allegations against him are still being investigated and will be decided by the court.
