The Kano State Police Command has announced a temporary restriction of movement in parts of the state ahead of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency bye-election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.
The restriction will affect both vehicular and pedestrian movement within Dawakin Kudu and Warawa Local Government Areas, as part of heightened security arrangements for the poll.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to the statement, the decision followed resolutions reached at the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) meeting held on Wednesday, as stakeholders reviewed security preparations for the bye-election.
The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has ordered full implementation of the security plan designed to ensure a peaceful, credible, and violence-free electoral process.
“The security architecture developed with all ICCES partners will be fully deployed to guarantee a peaceful and orderly electoral process,” the statement said.
The police further announced that movement will be restricted between 12 noon and 5 p.m. on election day, covering all affected areas.
“There will be total restriction of vehicular and pedestrian movement within Dawakin Kudu and Warawa Local Government Areas from 1200hrs to 1700hrs on Saturday, June 20, 2026,” the statement added.

However, the Command clarified that exemptions will be granted to INEC officials, accredited election observers, essential workers, approved media personnel, and emergency responders.
Security operatives have also been deployed across polling units, collation centres, and strategic locations to ensure protection of voters and electoral materials.
The Command warned against electoral offences such as vote buying, ballot box snatching, violence, and misinformation, stressing that violators will be arrested and prosecuted under the Electoral Act.
“The Command has zero tolerance for electoral violence and any form of malpractice. Anyone caught will be arrested and prosecuted,” it stated.
Residents were urged to remain peaceful, comply with election guidelines, and report any suspicious activity to security agencies through designated emergency lines.
