Former President Goodluck Jonathan has been honoured with the traditional title of Jigon Bauchi by the Emir of Bauchi, Dr. Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu.
The traditional honour was conferred on Jonathan at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi metropolis on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, during the former president’s two-day visit to the state.
The Emir described Jonathan as a good leader and said the title was in recognition of his contributions to democracy, peace and national unity in Nigeria.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, who led government officials and other dignitaries to the palace, commended the Emirate for recognising the former president’s contributions to democratic development and national cohesion.
Responding to the honour, Jonathan expressed gratitude to the Emir and the people of Bauchi State for the recognition. He pledged to respect the laws, traditions and values of the Bauchi Emirate and uphold the dignity attached to the traditional title.
