John Fury: Anthony Joshua must beat Deontay Wilder for Tyson Fury fight

John Fury has revealed that Anthony Joshua can only fight his son Tyson Fury, if he beats Deontay Wilder in their highly anticipated fight.

Negotiations for a Joshua vs Wilder clash in Saudi Arabia have stalled for months now, with alternative locations like Las Vegas or London now being explored.

However, Fury senior has made it clear that the only path to a match with his son Tyson, popularly known as the Gypsy King is through Deontay Wilder.

“The only way that can happen is if he beats Deontay Wilder,” John told Mail Sport. “If AJ wants to face Tyson, let him defeat Wilder. No one wants Wilder. They can’t take Wilder’s power.”

John Fury believes that many fighters are avoiding Wilder due to his tough punching power, but he maintains that facing him is the ticket for a fight against Tyson Fury.

“They’re going to have to line up and do something big. Tyson went to everyone’s backyard to get them titles. If Joshua beats Wilder, that fight can be made in 30 seconds.

“But at the moment it’s dead in the water because he doesn’t deserve it. He can’t face a few bums and face the Gypsy King, can he? I know the public wants to see it but let him earn it,” he reiterated.

Meanwhile, Tyson Fury has two tough bouts lined up for him already. He is set to face Francis Ngannou on October 28 and, afterward, will take on Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight world titles, scheduled tentatively for late this year or in early 2024.
